Hi Mrs Schreiter

Having read through the quote from your builder and I am confused as to the work that he is proposing to do as this is not what we discussed in your home on both of my previous inspections.

As I had agreed from my initial inspection there is cosmetic damage to your stairs that are as a result of a normal fitting method and not due to any negligence of our fitters. The issues are a result of the condition of an old staircase and as mentioned previously these issues do occur during a carpet installation and are more noticeable when you are having a runner which is a narrow strip exposing the edges.

As a good will gesture I had agreed that we would cover the cost of having the bottom riser of the loft flight repaired and that you would get a quote from your builder that I would either approve or request that my trades person have a look. This was initially agreed on Wednesday 6th July and most recently on Tuesday 26th July. The quote from your builder however is stating that your builder will put right all the issues with the stairs along with any others found once the carpet has been uplifted totalling 2 days work. This is not what was agreed and therefore rescind my offer of covering the cost of the repair the bottom riser of the top stairs that I state again was a gesture of good will.

This issue is now getting out of hand and blaming us for all the issues required to make good you stairs is unfair and untrue as I did mention that there are areas where the decorator has simply painted over cracks in the stairs therefore proving that the gaps where not all filled and made good prior to our arrival resulting in an issue masked by paint.

I dispute the fact that we are liable for any damage to the stairs but do agree that they tape and fitting is not finished to a standard that we are happy with and honour the offer to uplift the carpet, take it away to be re-stitched where necessary then return to re-install the carpets. I will turn this around as quickly as possible (within 3-5days).

Regarding the balance outstanding of £800.00 I would ask that £700.00 is paid now as it is outstanding withholding £100.00 that will be payable when we return to complete the installation.

I am sorry that we find ourselves in this situation as the last thing we want are dissatisfied customers however on this occasion I find the complaint unfounded.

I would ask that any further correspondence is via email in order to avoid any further confusion.

Regards

Richard
